Peggy was a beautiful soul who loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and spent her life following his command to “love your neighbors as yourself”. Peggy was selfless, giving what she could to anyone who had a need even, when at times, it meant doing without herself. She was full of joy and enjoyed being around people, laughing and was known to pull a good prank or two on her brothers and cousins even though she knew she could expect one in return. Peggy also enjoyed taking drives through the country, traveling, going to antique stores, painting and making ceramics. Peggy’s love for Jesus, her unconditional love of her family and others and her unending generosity is a beautiful legacy she has left for all who love and knew her.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Nickels, one son, DeWayne Nickels, and her two brothers, Forrest Kavanaugh and LeGene Kavanaugh.
Peggy is survived by her son, Darrell Nickels (Cindy); daughter, Jackie Hunsaker (Paul); five grandsons, Joel Kevin Nickels (Sylvia); Jason Tyner; Cory Nickels; Luke Hunsaker and Abe Lethlean (Bridget Hughes); two granddaughters, Alisha Walton (Danny) and Christina Nickels-Buscemi (Joseph); 14 great grandchildren and 18 great-great grandchildren as well as multiple nieces, nephews and cousins.
A very special thank you to the CNAs, nurses and staff at Twin Lakes Living and Therapy for not only the excellent care given, but for the kindness and love they poured out to our Mom/Grandmother every day. May God’s blessings be upon you all as you serve in such a special way.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
