Peggy Frances Hodge Simmons, age 91, passed away on February 10, 2020 in Melbourne, Arkansas. She was born on March 25, 1928 in Ennis, Texas to John William Hodge, Sr. and Alice Hortense Blasingame Hodge. Peggy was raised in Ennis, Texas and graduate from Ennis High School in 1946. She married Fred Melbourne Simmons in 1957 and their family included four children; Patti, Susan, Kay and Greg. She completed vocational training at a secretarial school and became a bookkeeper at Dallas Label and Box Company where she worked for more than twenty years. Her family and friends will always remember Peggy as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She deeply cared about others, was very sensitive to their needs and loved blessing others. Peggy loved square dancing with her husband, Fred, playing board and card games with family and friends, planning and participating in family events and watching sports events… especially the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers. As a devoted Christian and longtime member of Casa View Baptist Church in Dallas, she invested many years of life, love and laughter singing in the church choir, going on church trips and participating in numerous other church related activities multiple times each week. In journaling about her life achievements, Peggy noted that she was proud to have been named Salutatorian of her graduating high school class, but felt her highest achievement was to have raised children who live out a value of serving others. She blessed others wherever she went, even to her last days and will be deeply missed. She is preceded in death by her husband of over 55 years, Fred M. Dear Simmons family,
I know you must miss this great woman terribly. In my younger years I looked up to her so much. I never stopped looking up to her, I just wasn’t around much following elementary school. Your house was always so much fun, and your parents were a big part of that. I will never forget Mrs. Simmons’ sweet, caring ways along with her sense of fun. You are all in my prayers. I know a big celebration is happening in Heaven right now!
With love,
Carol Chesley Henry
