Firmly grounded in her family, faith, and friendships, Lisa's life was enriched by a passion for new experiences and a love for literature, travel, gardening and the movies. Born on May 13, 1928 in Padang Sidempuan, in North Sumatra, Indonesia, Lisa was the fourth child of twelve siblings. Spending time with her siblings by the sea was one of her fondest childhood memories. Her interest in languages led her to become fluent in Dutch, Indonesian, English and a little French. She worked for a time as an English teacher in Palembang, South Sumatera.
Lisa met her husband, So Hong Hie, an engineer by training in Palembang. His ability to play the violin initially caught her attention, and they shared 51 wonderful years together until his death in 2004.
Church activities were an integral part in Lisa's life in Palembang and Garland. She was a member of Santo Joseph parish in Palembang and St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church parish in Garland.
After Hong Hie passed away, Lisa moved to Garland to be closer to her daughters, Tin and Sian. In Garland she continued her hobbies of gardening and travelling. She found great relationships in the DFW Indonesian Catholic Community and in the company of the Crawford family (Richard and Gail). Lisa enjoyed many cross country travels with her daughters, with a final road trip together to Arkansas.
