

Philip R. Gomez, 81, of Dallas, Texas, married to Minerva L. Gomez, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022. He was born on March 18, 1940, in Dallas to the late Conception Gomez and Maria De Jesus Rios Ramirez. He was preceded in death by brother, Raymond Gomez and grandson, Christopher Brito.
He and Minerva were married for sixty-three years. He was a loving father to his children and spontaneous grandfather to his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Philip grew up singing and playing the guitar which, he continued to do over his lifetime. Although he was a man of all traits, Philip spent majority of his working years at Southwestern Bell before he retired in 1999. After retirement, he worked as a self-contractor remodeling, going on fishing trips, and doing any project his children needed assistance with. He also sang in the choir at Our Lady of San Juan de Lagos- Santa Teresita for numerous years before he began singing at Nuestra Senora Del Pilar Catholic Church, at times singing at both churches on Sundays. Philip spent his final years enjoying his great family, painting almost daily, and praying a weekly rosary with his siblings. He will be remembered for his compassionate heart, incredible personality, phenomenal helping hands, and awesome fishing skills. He left an amazing legacy.
Philip is survived by 3 daughters: Rebecca (Paul) Vasquez, Melinda Brito, & Bernadette (Victor) Peña and 2 sons: Philip Gomez Jr. and Jesse (Martha)Gomez. Philip had 16 grandchildren: Philip Gomez III, Rick (Cynthia) Brito, Mark (Virginia)Gomez, Jonathon (Veronica) Gomez, Amanda Brito, Jesse Gomez Jr., Jessica Solis, Matthew Brito, Vanessa (Jose) Mendez, Samantha (Dez) Buckaloo, Anthony Saucedo, Miranda (Christian) Herrera, Mallory Gomez, Victor (Ruby) Peña Jr., Melena Brito, and Jacob Gomez. He also had 33 great grandchildren: Philip IV, Elizabeth, Jeremiah, Ricky, Donovan, Christopher (Philip’s), Briana, Christian (Matt’s), Christopher (Mark’s), Dominick, Desiree, Adrian, Bianca, Derek, Anthony Jr. (T’s), Dahliya, Michael, Madison, Anthony Jr. (Sam’s), Marek, Margarita, Allison, Alexa, Marcelino, Christian Jr. (Miranda’s), Magdelena, Millarey, Avery, Andrew, Ansley, Isaiah, Aliyyah, and Meilani. Other family members left to cherish his memory are brothers and sisters: Don, Frank, Mike, Martin, Janie, Theresa, Mary, Lupe, Julie, and Carmen along with their children and extended family & friends.
Visitation and rosary will be held on Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Calvary Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery (3235 Lombardy Ln, Dallas, TX 75220) from 4:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. The Funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 4, 2022, at 10:00 a.m., in Dallas at Our lady of San Juan de los Lagos – Santa Teresita (2601 Singleton Blvd, Dallas, TX 75212). Funeral procession & burial will immediately follow to Calvary Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery. A celebration of life luncheon will follow at Our lady of San Juan de los Lagos – Santa Teresita dining hall.
