Colonel RL "Woody" Wood ascended peacefully into heaven on July 9, 2018. He was reunited there with his wife, children, parents, siblings and his loving Savior, Jesus Christ. He was 96 years old. RL was born in Bell County, TX to Frederick Wood and Nora Birdwell. He had six brothers and two sisters. He graduated from Winters High School, then married his faithful wife, Gwen, and had 2 children, Karen and David. He received his Bachelor's Degree in history from Florida State University, then had a full career in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Colonel after service in World War II, Vietnam and the Korean War.

After his military retirement, he settled in Jacksonville, Texas, enjoyed working in real estate, as well as participating in and serving his church, First United Methodist. He also enjoyed caring for his cattle and pet horses, "hayburners" as he affectionately called them, and used this time to teach his granddaughters valuable life lessons.

Woody enjoyed helping others and loved to joke around with his family and friends. He survived much adversity, but used humor to cope and bring enjoyment to all he loved.

He is survived by two brothers; FB and Lee Wood; four granddaughters, Stephanie Helman, Shannon Presley, Rachel Richards and Lindsey Wood; seven great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of other loving family and friends.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 13th, at 10am, at Park Cities Baptist Church, Ellis Chapel, Dallas, TX with a reception to follow. A military graveside service will take place at Meador Cemetery in Jacksonville, TX, on Friday, July 13th, at 3:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Air Force Aid Society at WWW.AFAS.ORG in memory of RL Wood (Tribute Giving).
