Ralph Byrd Day, age 90 of Oak Leaf, TX passed away on October 17, 2018. He was born August 1, 1928 in Seminole, OK to William and Marie Day and spent most of his life in Alma, OK. After graduating from Alma High School in 1946, Ralph enlisted in the US Army where he was stationed in Alaska for four years. After an honorable discharge, Ralph moved to Dallas, TX where he went to work in the Experimental Aeronautics Division of Chance Vought Aircraft. Ralph resigned after 10 years and would spend the next 30 years in sales in the tobacco industry selling fine cigars meeting many life long friends along the way.
Ralph was proceeded in death by his parents; his sister Billie Jo Day; his loving wife Gracie Akins Day and many dear friends. He is survived by his only child, a son Robert R. Day and wife Cynthia Day; granddaughter Lindsay Wilson (husband Justin); granddaughter Kristin Thompson (husband Travis); great-grandson, Brazos Thompson; step son Billy Joe Akins (wife Marilyn); their children Lisa Falganik (husband Bobby); Angie Makovy (husband Brent); David Akins (wife Amy) and six grandchildren.
Ralph loved the outdoors and enjoyed playing golf, hunting and especially trout fishing but always made sure to be indoors to watch the Dallas Cowboys play. Ralph never met a stranger and his sense of humor and outgoing personality endeared him to many people of all ages. He will be greatly missed but leaves behind many happy memories for those who loved him.
The family will be welcoming friends and family of Ralph’s for a viewing at Laurel Land Funeral Home Saturday October 20th from 4:00PM to 6:00PM to celebrate his life.
