

Rathial Harper, Sr. was born on July 13, 1930 in Minden, Texas to the parents of Margaret Coleman and Ernest Harper (Gladys) who both preceded him in death. He had two sisters: Vernetta who preceded him in death and Ernestine.
In 1948, Rathial enlisted in the army where he served active-duty and reserve duty for 6 years. On July 24,1954 he married the love of his life, Ms. Joyce M. Edwards. The newlyweds decided to move and begin their family in Dallas, Texas. From this union, they had 4 children: Rathial Jr. and Julius Stanley who both preceded him in death, Debra Elaine, and Deadres Chere.
Rathial Harper was an active member in his community. Often known by the name of Ray or Harper Boy, he often helped his neighbors with his many skills of being a mechanic, a handy man, a landscaper, and all around jack of all trades. He served faithfully as a deacon at Bexar Street Baptist Church and Greater South Central. Late in life he became a member of Greater Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church.
On April 9, 2020, Rathial Harper answered his heavenly call of rest where there is no more sickness or pain. He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Joyce Harper, his daughters Debra Robertson and Deadres Jones (Benny), his sister Ernestine Foreman (Clarence), God son Chauncey Grant, a host of grand children, great grand children, great great grand children, and many friends and family.
