Raul “Roy” Velasco Sr. passed away March 26, 2025, in Richardson, Texas, at 88 years old. He was born August 4, 1936, in Dallas, Texas, to Gustavo and Eulalia Sanchez Velasco. Roy was raised in the “Little Mexico” neighborhood of Dallas and attended Dallas schools. He possessed great athletic abilities in his younger years. Roy graduated from Crozier Technical High School in 1955.
He married Gloria Guerrero Gomez on September 1, 1957. The two were married for 38 years and had five children. Roy was an Offsetting Press Operator with Preferred Printers Company, where he was employed for more than ten years. Roy continued working as a Press Operator for various businesses. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family. In his spare time, Roy enjoyed watching sports, reading, listening to classical music and family get-togethers.
His family will always remember him as a God-fearing man with a strong work ethic. Roy emphasized family unity and strong values in his children.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Gustavo and Eulalia; siblings, Gustavo Velasco Jr., Robert Velasco, Alice Morin, William Velasco Sr., Velia Villegas, George Velasco Sr. and David Velasco.
Roy is survived by his sibling, Lucy Rodriguez; children, Helen Marie Velasco, Rebecca Soto and spouse, Daniel, Roy Velasco Jr., Rafael Velasco Sr. and spouse, Gilda; Patricia DeLeon and spouse, Pablo Sr., grandchildren, Melissa Velasco, Rosanna Rodriguez and spouse, David; Lena Cordova and spouse Joshua, Arlene Soto, Samantha Velasco, Matthew Soto and spouse, Jeanette, Rafael Velasco Jr. and spouse, Emily, Gabriella DeLeon, Isabella Cruz and spouse, Chris, Pablo DeLeon Jr. and spouse, Stephanie, Alexander DeLeon, Adrianna DeLeon; great-grandchildren, Alaina Saucedo, Avery Velasco, Teagan Velasco, Aaleyah Cruz, Samuel DeLeon, Emory Cruz, Dia Cordova, Joshua Cordova Jr., Ezra DeLeon, Luca Diaz, Pablo DeLeon III, Halle Velasco and Luke DeLeon.
