Raul Zapata

Raúl Zapata, 97, murió el 28 de Octubre de 2016 en Garland, Texas. Raúl nació en Carúpano, Venezuela el 12 de Julio de 1919. Raúl se casó con Elba Vargas y juntos tuvieron 4 hijas, Elizabeth, Noemi, Milene y Marina. Raúl tuvo 3 hijos políticos, 8 nietos, y 2 bisnietos. Durante sus años de adolescencia, él desarrollo un gran interés por el arte del corte de cabello. Se hizo barbero. También, tuvo una gran pasión por el negocio de Bienes Raíces. El objetivo en su vida era el llegar a ser un hombre de negocios exitoso y lo logró. A la edad de los 18 años, abrió su primera barbería en la ciudad de Cumanå, Venezuela, llamado: Salón Juventud. En su estadía en Cumaná, conoció a el amor de su vida, Elba Vargas. Raúl disfrutaba la magia de la comida hogareña y Cruz Vargas, la mamá de Elba era dueña de un pequeño negocio donde se servía desayuno, almuerzo y cena. Así que Raúl, no solamente se enamoró de los deliciosos platos que su futura suegra preparaba y servía para él, pero también se enamoró de Elba. Ellos se casaron y crearon una hermosa familia; además, mantuvieron su promesa de ser fieles, respetarse el uno al otro en la salud y en la enfermedad, en la riqueza y en la pobreza, por el resto de sus vidas. Elba se fue el 3 de octubre del 2012, pero el 28 de Octubre de este año, ellos se reencontraron de nuevo y continuaron su historia de amor, esta vez en vida eterna junto a nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Raúl se definía como un hombre familiar. Sus tiempos de mayor gozo fueron con su familia. También, disfrutó mucho el viajar, aprender de otras culturas, la pesca, el beisbol, el boxeo y la lectura, en especial un buen libro de historia. El disfrutaba mucho ponerte a prueba con preguntas contundentes de historia. Ah!! también disfrutaba la deliciosa comida que Elba le cocinó. “Nadie cocina tan bueno como Elba”, usaba decir. Cuando le preguntaban cúal era su secreto para mantenerse joven y saludable decía: "No tengo vicios - ni tomo - ni fumo”. Raúl se sentía muy orgulloso de haberse hecho ciudadano americano. El decía: “No puedo ser un soldado para ir a pelear por los Estados Unidos, pero aún puedo trabajar inyectando como enfermero”. El tuvo la oportunidad de ejercer su derecho al voto en este país, dos veces. Raúl fue miembro de la iglesia cristiana Encuentros con Dios. El disfrutaba ir y alabar a Cristo todos los domingos. Ligia Eekohut era su Pastor preferido. El decía que Ligita, como la llaman sus mas cercanos, tenía una gran misión en esta tierra. Servir al Señor y difundir Su palabra. Los últimos 8 meses de su vida los pasó en el Winters Park Nursing Home en Garland, Texas., donde las enfermeras y personal lo llamaban 'Papa'. Allí, se dedicó a mejorar su Inglés. Disfrutó el hacer ejercicios, jugar bingo, ir a la cocina hablar la lengua de Cervantes con los trabajadores y en su silla de ruedas recorría el establecimiento. Así, él se enamoró de un cuarto desocupado (suite 120) donde disfrutaba de la belleza de los cuadros que adornaban las paredes, el edificio Empire States en Nueva York y la Torre Eiffel en Paris. Raúl amó viajar y probablemente recordaba sus viajes alrededor del mundo con Elba. Una de sus más allegadas enfermeras dijo: “El se cita allí en secreto con su amada Elba…” Raúl vivió una vida completa en esta tierra! Ahora, él está encantado con la presencia del Señor, Jesucristo y viviendo Su promesa de vida eterna con el amor de su vida, Elba. Descansa en paz, ‘Papa'. ¡Viva Zapata, Carajo! Raul Zapata, 97, passed away October 28th, 2016 in Garland, TX. Raul was born in Carupano, Venezuela July12th, 1919. Raul married Elba Vargas and together they had 4 daughters, Elizabeth, Noemi, Milene, and Marina. Raul had 3 sons in law, 8 grandchildren, and 2 great grand children. During his teen years he developed a great interest for the art of hair styling. He became a barber. He was also passionate about the Real Estate business. His goal in his life was to become a successful business man and he achieved it. At the age of 18, he opened his first barber shop in the city of Cumana in Venezuela, called: Salon Juventud - The Youth Hair Salon. While in Cumana, he met the love of his life, Elba Vargas. Raul enjoyed the magic of home cooking and Cruz Vargas, Elba’s mother, owned a very cozy and very well-kept bed and breakfast, that not only served the most important meal of the day, but also lunch and dinner. Raul not only felt in love with the delicious dishes that his future mother in law prepared and served him, but he also felt in love with Elba. They married and created a beautiful family, and kept their promise to be faithful and respectful to each other in sickness and in health, in richness and poor, for their entire life. Elba passed away October 3rd, 2012 and on October 28th, 2016 they met again to continue their love story, at this time with eternal life together with our Lord, Jesus Christ. Raul defined himself as a family man. His most enjoyable time was with his family. Also, he enjoyed traveling, learning about other cultures, fishing, baseball, boxing and reading, specially a good history book. He enjoyed putting you in the “hot” seat and testing your knowledge of history. Ah! he had a pleasure for food, specially the delicious dishes that Elba would cook for him. “No one cooks as good as Elba” - he used to say. When asked what was his secret to staying young and healthy he would say: “No tengo vicious - no fumo - ni bebo” “I have no vicis - I don’t smoke and i don’t drink”. Raul was extremely proud for having become a United States citizen. He would say: “I cannot be a soldier but I can help as a first aider”. He had the opportunity to exercise his right to vote in this country twice. Raul was a member of the Christian Church: Encounters with God. He enjoyed attending church praising the Lord every Sunday. Ligia Eekohut was his favorite pastor. He would say: “This is her mission in life: to serve the Lord and spread the Holy word to all” The last 8 months of his life was spent at Winters Park Nursing Home in Garland, TX., where the nurses called him Papa. He spent much of his time trying to improve his English skills. He enjoyed working out, playing bingo, going to the back of the kitchen to speak the language of Cervantes, and ‘wheeling’ around the facility. He felt in love with an unoccupied room (suite 120) where he enjoyed the beautiful images of the Empire Sates Building in New York and the Eiffel Tower in Paris. Raul loved traveling and probably he reminisced the journeys he made around the world with Elba. A nurse once said: “He goes there to meet in secret with his lovely wife, Elba…!” Raul lived a fulfilling life on this earth! Now, he is enchanted by the presence of the Lord, Jesus Christ, and living His promise of eternal life next to his sweet heart and the love of his life, Elba. Rest in Peace, Papa.
