

He is preceded in death by his parents Dr. and Mrs. Olin W. Gibbons, and his brothers Dr. Olin W. Gibbons, Jr. and Dr. William E. Gibbons. He is survived by his wife Ann Gibbons and his children Bob Gibbons and his wife Nancy, David Gibbons and his wife Louise, Cynthia Davey and her husband Tom, Michael Gibbons, and Mary Gibbons as well as 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is also survived by his sister Sally Bowen and her husband Ray.
Dr. Gibbons graduated in 1947 from Highland Park High School and received his undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University in 1951, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He graduated from Southwestern Medical School in 1955 and his internship was at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas. He then served for two years in the U.S. Air Force and completed his residency in General Surgery at Parkland Hospital and Veterans Hospital in Dallas.
He began his practice of General Surgery in 1962 at St. Paul Hospital and The Samuell Clinic. After retiring from private practice in 1994, he began employment at The Veterans Hospital in Dallas in outpatient surgery until 2005.
He was a member of The American College of Surgeons, Dallas Society of General Surgeons, Dallas County Medical Society, American Medical Society, and Dallas Country Club.
While in Medical School he married his loving wife of 64 years, Ann Mendenhall Gibbons, and together they raised their 5 children. He was a very giving and devoted father to each of us, and a kind and compassionate man to all who knew him. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather and will be missed dearly by all.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, December 18th at 10:00 at Christ The King Catholic Church with Visitation beginning at 9:30. A private family burial will follow in the afternoon.
