

Raymond Tipps, III, was born November 3, 1949, and passed away October 26, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond Tipps, Jr. and Lela Mae Jordan-Tipps; and his sister, Betty Rae Pipkin. Upon graduating from Roosevelt High School in 1967, Raymond held a variety of jobs before enlisting in the United State Army, where he served three consecutive tours of duty from 1972-1979. While serving his country abroad, he acquired various culinary techniques which contributed to own personal style of cooking. Employed by the University of Texas Southwest Medical Center for 34 years, he began his career as a Laboratory Technician. He later applied for the position of Chef and rose to the rank of Executive Chef. Raymond was later promoted to Facilities Manager, a position he held until retirement. Due to his love for the culinary arts, he simultaneously worked with Sandy Korem, Owner of The Festive Kitchen. Through this venture, he was afforded the opportunity to exhibit his uncanny culinary skills for Former President Georoge W. Bush, Former First Lady Barbara Bush, Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, Secretary of State Colin Powell, various professional sports personalities, actors, actresses, and prominent local business figures. Upon his retirement he enjoyed gardening and fishing; but most importantly he enjoyed entertaining and cooking for his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Cheryl Tipps; son, Raymond Tipps, IV; sister, Henry Hudson (Samuel); sister-in-law, Felecia Green; brother-in-law, Dr. J. Melvin Green, Jr. (Jacqueline); aunt, Esther Whiten; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Two special longtime friends, Dwayne Artis and Lee Williams. Visitation will be 7 p.m.- 9 p.m. Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Laurel Land Funeral Home-Chapel and Funeral Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, November 3, 2017 at Laurel Land Funeral Home-Chapel. Interment will be 10:15 a.m. Monday, November 6, 2017 at DFW National Cemetery.
