Rebecca Ann Bowen Wallace, beloved by all, and a faithful follower of Jesus Christ, passed away on July 21, 2015, at the age of 86. She was born on October 6, 1928, in Dallas, Texas, the youngest of Rev. Clinton and Ollie Bowen’s eight children. As the daughter of a Methodist minister, she lived in many small towns in Texas and Oklahoma before settling in Dallas, where Rev. Bowen led the Trinity Methodist Church congregation.
Rebecca met many life-long friends at Highland Park High School and SMU, where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and a Rotunda Beauty. She raised three children with her husband Carl Wallace: Preston, David and Ruth. An enthusiastic supporter of her children, she served as PTA President and Cub Scouts Den Mother, clapped loudly at musical recitals and was renowned for her piercing whistle at HP Scots Basketball games. Rebecca proudly sported red and blue with family and friends at SMU Mustang football games.
She faithfully served Lovers Lane United Methodist Church for 67 years, singing in the choir and treating her Sunday school class to her popular deviled eggs. The church honored Rebecca with the Heritage Award for her hard work and dedication. She was active in the Dallas Junior League and Dallas Woman’s Club, and she particularly loved her supportive IWW Group. From adult education classes to traveling worldwide with family and friends, she loved to learn about new places and people. Curious and gregarious, Rebecca never met a stranger and her grandchildren were awed by the people she knew everywhere she went.
Rebecca is survived by her children: Preston and Peggy Wallace of Farmington Hills, MI, David and Chris Wallace of Dallas and Ruth Henshall of Houston; by her grandchildren Nathan Wallace and Sara Crosby of Columbus, OH, Brian Wallace and Kate Polson of New York City, Sandra and Ian Hogan of Fort Collins, CO, Leah Wallace of Ypsilanti, MI, Brett Wallace and fiancée Laura Aboulhosn of Washington, DC, Shannon Wallace of Dallas; and by her great-grandchildren Simone, Owen, Caleb and Griffin. She was predeceased by granddaughter Gina Wallace.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 10 a.m. at the sanctuary of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, 9200 Inwood Road, Dallas, TX 75220 with Rev. Stan Copeland officiating. A reception in her honor will be held in Watson Hall immediately following the service. Donations may be made to the charity of your choice or Lovers Lane United Methodist Church.
