Rebel Eugene Blackwell, Jr, 91, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many went to be with his Lord and Savior on May 3, 2026. His cheerful, positive attitude, and fierce determination allowed him to live independently until just after his 91st birthday when his body finally failed him. He died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by family.
Born on January 28, 1935, in Dallas, Texas, to Rebel Eugene Blackwell and Mildred Foster Blackwell, Rebel grew up in the country outside Canton, Texas where his childhood exploits, roaming Van Zandt County, are legendary. He played football and ran track for the Canton Eagles, graduating in 1953.
After graduation, Rebel moved to Austin, Texas to attend the University of Texas where he joined Sigma Phi Epsilon, made lifelong friends, and met and married the love of his life, Phyllis “Fifi” Pryor, on August 16, 1958.
After college, Rebel and Fifi moved to Dallas where he joined IBM. In 1963, he joined Rauscher Pierce and Refnes and moved to Midland, Texas, Fifi’s hometown, reuniting with many of her childhood friends. Five years later, Rauscher Pierce transferred them back to Dallas. Rebel later joined Rotan Mosle, then ventured out on his own founding Blackwell, Moore, and Murphy. Finally, his love for the outdoors, specifically hunting and fishing, led him to found Anglers and Hunters, Inc. where he took groups of friends hunting and fishing all over the world.
Rebel was a die-hard Texas Longhorn fan, a long-time member of Salesmanship Club of Dallas, and served for over 20 years as Scoutmaster of Troop 80, Boy Scouts of America, leading dozens of young men to receive their Eagle Scout Award.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Fifi Blackwell, his grandson, Brandon “Boogie” Blackwell, and his brother, Marcus Burrage. He is survived by children Rebel Blackwell III (Sandra), Pryor Blackwell (Sue), and Frances Blackwell Loper, six grandchildren, and eleven great-grandchildren.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the Edgemere community, friends, and staff, for their love and encouragement of Rebel and Fifi for over 20 years.
