

Redus worked in the field, went to school, and most importantly, went to church. He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age, was baptized, and united with his family church, Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church. In 1965, he graduated from Wilson White High School in Rosebud, Texas.
Redus moved to Dallas after graduation. Shortly thereafter, he joined Forest Avenue Baptist Church, pastored by the Late Rev. E.A. Greer. Redus served in the United States Army from 1966 until 1968. Sergeant Williams was honorably discharged from active duty in 1968 and completed his military duties in the Army Reserve in January 1972. Stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, he was assigned to Battery C 4th Battalion 3D Artillery/ 1st Armored Division (Old Ironsides); licensed to drive the M108 Howitzer 26-ton gun tank, and various heavy equipment and additionally won trophies for the Broad Jump and One-Mile Relay.
Redus married Miss Sandra Lynn Harris on April 5, 1969. To this union, one son and one daughter were born.
His civilian work history includes: The Coco-Cola Company, Truck Driver for Merchants Fast Motor Lines (28 years), the City of Dallas (2 days), and Truck Driver for Yellow Freight (YRC) until he retired in October 2011. He was an Honorary Retired member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (Local 745).
Redus loved the LORD and witnessing to others. He sang in the Forest Avenue Baptist Church Gospel Choir for a short period of time before going to the Army. He was also BTU President (Baptist Training Union) and enthusiastic Sunday School and Brotherhood member. He liked to barbeque, fish and play dominoes; he especially, enjoyed calling friends and family to check on them.
Redus passed away, peacefully, in his sleep on Sunday, March 19, 2023. He will surely be missed.
Redus was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Williams, Sr.; two brothers: Rev. Henry Williams and Lemuel Williams; five sisters: Johnnie Lethridge, Emma Williams, Peggy Finney, Eula Thomas, and Grace Sumpter.
He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of 53 years, Sandra; sons-Rodney Finney of Honey Grove, Texas, Reed (Tericia) Williams of San Diego, California and daughter-Breann Williams of Dallas, Texas; four brothers: Marshall Williams, Charles (Carolyn) Williams, John H. Williams, Jr., and Winston (Silvia) Williams; grandchildren: Rodney, Rashaan, Trevon, Tierra, and Zayden; sisters-in-law: Leila Faye Williams, Illayvonne (Cle) Williams, Felecia Harris, and Sylvia Harris; brothers-in-law: X.L. Finney, Roy Thomas, Jr., C.W. Sumpter, Christian Harris, and Jamaal Harris; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, many friends, and special family friend, Mrs. Mae Frances Rollins.
