Regina G. Roth

peacefully on March 15, 2011, in Dallas, TX. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Malvina Guttman, sisters, Isabel Klein and Lillian Hirschhorn and her sweetheart and husband of nearly 63 years, Morris Edmond Roth. Mrs. Roth trained as a dental hygienist at Columbia University School of Dental Hygiene in New York City. After practicing for a short time, she married Mr. Roth in 1935 and moved to Connecticut with him where he was an engineer with Chance Vought Aircraft. In Hartford, CN, their first child, Peter Roth, was born. In 1942 the Roths again moved with the company, this time to Stratford, CN, where a daughter, Kathy, was born. Mrs. Roth is survived by son, Peter Roth (Judith), Kathy Roth Freeman (Dr. Alan Freeman); five grandchildren, David Roth (Lorena), Lt.Cmdr. Brian Roth (fiancée, Lt Col.Julie Olson), Julie Freeman, Michael Freeman (Sharon) and Jonathan Freeman; and four great- grandchildren, Isabel and Elena Roth and Samantha and Matthew Freeman; additionally, nephew Dr. Robert Klein (Dr. Roberta Klein) and family.

In January, 1949, the Roths moved to Dallas, TX, and with 2,000 Chance Vought families, began a new life in this strange and new southwestern city. Regina and Morris settled into their new home in University Park where their children attended University Park Elementary School and continued their education in the Parks Cities schools. Regina was active in her childrens’ schools and as a volunteer with Golden Acres Jewish Home for the Aged. She enjoyed creating menus at the Home for the residents. She was also active in the Temple Emanu-El Sisterhood and National Council of Jewish Women, Greater Dallas Section. When son, Peter, left for college, to fill the void left by her robust son, Mrs. Roth learned to play bridge which turned out to be a life-long challenge and enjoyment. Regina was a voracious reader preferring biographies of interesting and famous people and romantic and finely crafted novels. “Racey” novels were supplied to her by her friend and family member, Ruth Byer, whom she loved and admired. Regina and Morris Roth were ardent Dallas Symphony-goers attending every season beginning in 1950. Mrs. Roth continued her attendance through the 2008 season.

Regina adored babies and as she became elderly wished that she could volunteer in the nursery of a local hospital so that she could sit and rock the newborns. Realizing that she might be turned down because of her advanced age she decided not to complete the volunteer application. Instead, she became a supporter of Dallas Childrens Medical Center and Scottish Rite Hospital for Crippled Children. Regina was the ultimate mother, caregiver, fine cook, intellectually astute thinker, and loving to be thought of as surrogate mother to many of her daughter’s friends whose mothers had passed away at a much younger age. She also continued to stay abreast of the latest in dental hygiene and entertained her dentist and assistants with “how things used to be” in the field of dental hygiene. The family wishes to thank long-time caregivers considered “angels here on earth:” Ruby Trimble, Ana Gonzalez and Oneida Camacho, and new employee, Tamaso Garcia who catered to Mrs. Roth’s spiritual side. In addition, thanks to the superb caring service given by all the staff of Hospice Plus over the last several months. Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, March 17, at 2 p.m., Temple Emanu-El, Lefkowitz Chapel, Rabbi Debra Robbins officiating.
