Mr. Reginald Earl Johnson, affectionately known as “Reg,” was born on October 2, 1956, to Marshnell Johnson and the late Edwina Johnson. A proud native Houstonian raised in the historic Fourth Ward, Reg was the third of four children—two girls and two boys.
Reg grew up active in faith and community as a dedicated member of Peaceful Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Dave Botts. In his early childhood, he attended Ms. Woods School and Gregory Elementary, later graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School. Following high school, Reg continued his education at Wiley College. Soon after leaving Wiley College, he made Dallas his home.
If you had the privilege of knowing Reg, you knew three truths about him: he would keep you laughing, he never sugarcoated a thing, and he was a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan. Reg was loved by so many—a warmth made abundantly clear when family visited his apartment and met his neighbors, each sharing the same heartfelt sentiment: he was simply a genuinely great guy who will be deeply missed.
Reg was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Edwina Johnson, who passed away nine months ago.
He leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory: his father, Marshnell Johnson; his eldest sister, Betty Johnson; his brother, Kenneth Johnson; and his baby sister, Tanya Gooch. He is also survived by six nieces, three nephews, thirteen great-nephews and nieces, one great-great-nephew, one great-great-niece, four aunts, one uncle, and a host of cousins and friends. In addition, he will be dearly missed by lifelong and special friends, Mr. Alex and Nancy Curiel, and Ms. Phyllis Lovett.
Reg will always be remembered for his unforgettable personality, quick laughter, and deep love for his family and friends.
