Ricardo Romeo Benavides was born to the late Amador and Petra Benavides in Reynosa, Tamaulipas on July 12, 1942. He called Dallas, TX his home for the majority of his adult life. Ricardo worked in the petroleum field in his younger years but spent most of his career in the field of construction. He was actively working in the field well past retirement alongside his son Jorge Benavides and up until his passing.
Ricardo had many interests including leisurely fishing, watching old westerns like Bonanza and Gun Smoke as well as Mexican oldies from Pedro Infante and Cantiflas, listening to music, and completing word search books. He loved being around family and was a near constant companion to his daughter Veronica Benavides in a number of small outdoor adventures including impromptu camping trips and canoeing. He never declined an invitation to travel and enjoyed trips to Mexico and Nassau. He had a sweet tooth for all desserts with strawberry milkshakes being his favorite. He was also a prankster and passed that light hearted spirit to his children.
Ricardo found unequivocal joy in dancing. He never hesitated to break into song and dance. He was the first on the dance floor at any event and was not afraid to create his own dance floor wherever there was music. He took the phrase “dance like no one is watching” to heart and it was a joy to be around him in those occasions.
Ricardo was blessed with a large family. He is survived by his children Blanca N Benavides, Marisa Jenkins, Romeo Benavides, Jorge Benavides, Adriana Benavides, Sandra Shimkus, Veronica Benavides, Ashley Benavides, Ricardo Benavides Jr, Nathan Benavides, and April Benavides; his sisters Emma Coronado and Gloria Benavides; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his son Ricardo Benavides, his grandson Victor Del Bosque; his brother Amador Benavides, his sisters Blanca Pedraza and Alicia Cantu; and his parents.
