Richard was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on September 3, 1950. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1969 and St. Edward’s University in 1973. In college, he excelled on the varsity basketball team and he met the love of his life, Denise Paquette.
Richard dedicated his life to serving others. For nearly five decades, he shaped the lives of countless students through a distinguished career in education, as a history teacher, a football coach and an assistant principal at Highland Park High School, and later at Highland Park Middle School, where he was an assistant principal for 22 years.
Richard was a beloved figure in the Highland Park community and was known for his steady presence, fairness, integrity, kindness, and unwavering commitment to students and teachers. His impact extended far beyond the school walls, earning him the Highland Park ISD Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the district and community. In his own words, Richard proclaimed “I make a difference for kids” when he was once asked to use only six words by which he wanted to be remembered.
When Richard retired in 2020, the outpouring of gratitude reflected the countless lives he impacted. Hundreds of former students, athletes, parents, colleagues, and friends participated in a retirement drive by parade celebrating a man whose influence had shaped generations. Even in retirement, Richard remained devoted to the school community, volunteering regularly in the Highland Park Middle School cafeteria, where he continued to greet students with the same warmth that defined his career.
Above all else, Richard was devoted to his family. He shared a loving marriage of nearly 52 years with his wife, Denise. Together they built a home centered on their Catholic faith, love, laughter, and service to others. Richard was a proud father to four sons and an adoring grandfather to six grandchildren who brought him immeasurable joy.
Richard also loved spending time outdoors with friends and family and treasured the many trips taken over the years to the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico. These adventures created stories and memories that his family will forever cherish.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Otmar and Betty Bohac, and is survived by his loving wife Denise, four sons: Christopher (Caryn), David (Tracy), Patrick (Whitney) and Michael, six grandchildren: Abrianna, Palmer, Bellamy, Mikey, Dakota, and Carter, three sisters: Deborah Crowley, Diane Housey, and Patricia St. Jacques, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and many dear friends.
Visitation will be held on June 18, 2026 at 5:00 at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home with a Rosary at 6:00 pm. The Funeral Mass is on June 19, 2026 at 10:00 am at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 6306 Kenwood Avenue, Dallas, Texas.
