

Richard Wayne Lorance, son of Bert Edward Lorance and Edith Marie (Stock) Lorance, passed away quietly at home in Ovilla, Texas on Friday, Oct. 28, 2022 at the age of 81. Richard was born Oct. 28, 1941 upstairs in the farmhouse of his Uncle Harlan Stock in Dundy County, Nebraska. Richard is the fourth generation descendant of the St. Claire, Stock and Lorance families, who were early settlers in southwest Nebraska. Active in the Boy Scouts, Richard represented his Boy Scout region, traveling alone by train to join a group of 30 scouts who were invited to visit the Nebraska State Capitol and meet the Governor. He was Homecoming King and voted Most Likely to Succeed.
Upon graduation from Stratton High School, Richard attended the Parks School of Business in Denver, then went on to graduate from the University of Denver in 1968 with a BSBA in Business Administration. He worked in the Oil and Gas industry while serving in the Colorado National Guard, then accepted a Chief Accountant position at Methodist Central Hospital, Dallas. He received his CPA license #9749 from the State of Texas on January 31, 1971. After becoming a CPA, Richard was promoted to Methodist Hospital CFO during the building of Charlton Methodist Hospital.
Rev. Will T. Dansby married Richard and Susan Jay at Cliff Temple Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas on February 14, 1971 and they celebrated 50 years of marriage in 2022. Rev. Jeff Pritchard led Richard to Christ and he was baptized February 3, 1974 at Sunny Glen Baptist Church.
After seven years, Richard accepted a position as Assistant Administrator/Controller of Irving Community Hospital during their building expansion. He went to NYC’s Twin Towers to present the hospital’s case for expansion. During this time, Richard and Susan began adopting their two Korean daughters: Abigail and Jessica. Other work positions include Controller at Mesquite Community Hospital, Assistant Controller at the National Headquarters of the ARC, Controller of Tarrant County Red Cross in Fort Worth, Assistant at Child Care Management Service of Dallas and CFO of WorkSource for Dallas County.
Although retired, Richard has stayed active playing his clarinet at Hillcrest Baptist Church, First Baptist Church Waxahachie and, for the last 11 years, with the Silver Serenaders of Texas Senior Choir. He prepared taxes for seniors through AARP in Cedar Hill, DeSoto and Midlothian and was awarded his 10 year pin at the beginning of the 2022 tax season. Although “retired status” from the CPA Society, Richard still reported continuing education hours every year and was recognized in Austin in 2022 for 50 years of service. Other activities included driving his Honda del Sol sports car, bicycle riding and operating the American Flyer train his parents gave him when he was a boy. At Christmas, it travels around his wife’s Snow Village town. He is a member of the University of Denver’s Pioneer Legacy Society and with Susan a member of Baylor’s Old Main Society, Baylor’s 1845 Society and Baylor Line Foundation.
Richard is predeceased by his parents and sister Reta Ann (Lorance) Smith of Denver. He is survived by his wife Susan Jay Lorance; their 2 daughters: Abigail Lorance Beyer and Justin Salazar and Jessica and Ian Derx; Abigail’s two sons Dante Marshall Beyer and Carter Maxwell Beyer; his Aunt Lois (Stock) Lane; his cousins Norma (Lorance) Thomas, Rosalie Lorance Fanlo; Roger Sandman (a Stock); Karla (Stock) Monford; Susan’s sister Tina (Jay) and Ray Trimble and many others.
