On Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 5:05 pm ~ Heaven gained a warrior when Rick Robinson (63 years old) went home to be with the Lord. While his daily struggle was filled with challenge after challenge…going home was very peaceful. Rick was surrounded by many of his loved ones as he crossed the finish line. We all rejoice in our heads for this victory, yet our sorrow is deep and our hearts are broken. During this challenging journey, he remained kind & patient, injected humor when possible, was supportive of those around him…and above all, Rick tried to honor God throughout everything. During this journey, the love and support he received was appreciated, helpful and at times even overwhelming. To know how very loved he was throughout this, continued to be most humbling right up to the end.
Rick was a father who loved his girls…all three of them. It was his honor to have April and Samantha from birth…and then to get a bonus daughter 18+ years ago. He was a Dad the girls could call for advise, support and guidance. As a PawPaw (or Papa..) he was devoted to his 8 grandkids and 5 great-grandkids and wished he could have spent MORE time with them all. He was a Brother to Cindy. They spoke often on the phone and as a big brother, Cindy could call and cheer him up and laugh with him.
Rick enjoyed working at the Austin Street Shelter. This was one of the many ways he gave-back. Rick would also spend countless hours talking with people who were facing cancer and kidney disease…both things he battled and then encouraged others to fight.
One of his greatest loves was working at BHA - the Borden Hamman Agency. Rick was excited every morning to go into work to see who he could help to change peoples lives. He was a valued member of their team and once he fell ill, he missed getting up and going to work every single day. He loved every minute of his job…working with the agents…working with the companies…and mostly working with the BHA family.
As everyone knows, Rick really enjoyed riding his motorcycle! He was able to take several bike trips with daughter Sami, his brother Dave, nephew Keith Robinson and other friends. His Harley-Davidson was his pride and joy and it literally broke his heart when he had to give that up. He hoped to ride again before he went home.
Finally, Rick was a husband. As his wife, it has been my great privilege to be a part of his life. We were a team, dedicated to run this race together. There were times on this journey when one of us would get too weary and fall. That was when the other one would pick up the baton and push forward. Team "US". Several of Ricks doctors have called since his passing and they spoke of Ricks care, Ricks faith, our commitment to each other and our humor - and how each of these were strong contributing factors to Rick living as long as he did (considering all the issues he faced). I will miss him each day, yet I know he can now enjoy the fruits of his labors. Rick was a hero to me and so many others for the way he lived his life every day.
I imagine God welcoming Rick home with "Well done faithful servant!"
