Born on August 5, 1947, in Shamrock, Texas, Rita was the oldest daughter of Dalton and Waunetia Honeycutt. She graduated from Shamrock High School in 1965 and went on to study cosmetology in Pampa, where she earned her operator and instructor licenses and continued her education to expand her skills and opportunities in the profession she loved.
Rita built a life rooted in hard work, independence, and care for others. She owned and operated Blue Crystal Coiffures for many years, creating not only hairstyles but lasting relationships with the people who sat in her chair. She had a natural way of putting people at ease and making them feel at home. Many knew her as someone with a wonderful laugh, a sharp wit, and the kind of honesty that could set you straight when needed. She was easy to talk to and deeply genuine.
Beyond her work, Rita found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved reading, shopping, beautiful purses, and all things blue, her favorite color. She adored cats and over the years lovingly cared for many. She was also deeply creative and spent countless hours making beautiful cross-stitch pieces for friends and family, each one stitched with patience and love.
Family was at the center of Rita’s life. She shared a close bond with her sisters, brother, and mother, and devoted much of herself to those she loved. She helped raise her nieces and nephews and was a steady presence in their lives. In her later years, she was lovingly cared for by her sisters, whose devotion reflected the same love Rita had given so freely throughout her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Dalton and Waunetia Honeycutt, and her brother, Charles “Chuck” Honeycutt.
Rita is survived by her sisters, Ann Honeycutt, Ola Merrick, and Iva Slaughter; her nieces and nephews, Scott Honeycutt, Cindy Fulgham, Jeremy Slaughter, Leanetia and Brian Kyle, Crystal Johnston, and Montanna Olivarez; her great-nieces and great-nephews, Austin Kyle, Colton Honeycutt, Cooper Kyle, Mabel Slaughter, Henry Slaughter, and Nolan Slaughter; her son, Kevin Cooper; grandchildren Amber Guynes and April Cooper; and great-grandchildren Oakley and Kyler Guynes.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Rita’s life on April 22 at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6300 S R L Thornton Fwy, Dallas, TX 75232. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., with the funeral service beginning at 2 p.m., followed by a burial at Southland Memorial Park, 1100 SW 3rd St, Grand Prairie, TX 75051.
In honor of Rita, the family kindly asks guests to wear blue, her favorite color.
Following the burial, family and friends are welcome to gather at the Honeycutt home for refreshments and fellowship, 7118 Emory Oak Lane, Dallas, Tx 75249.
Rita will be remembered for her kindness, humor, creativity, strength, and the quiet but lasting way she cared for those around her. Her love remains woven into the lives of all who knew her.
