Dear Doris:
Lilly and I send our love and thanks for the enormously
supportive role that DCM Bob and you played after the accident in Chile.

We were at Ralph Dungan's memorial service in Washington a bit
earlier this year. We keep up with the Pogues, Eileen Carver and Vera and
Joe Benham. Martin Prochnik's son George has just published a well
received new book on Stefan Zweig which is also a story about his father.
Also with Ann Cale and with Dr. Fierro's family. Baby Christine just
celebrated her 50th. Our two grandkids are in college.
Merry Christmas with profound gratitude. Ken and Lilly Guenther

Dear Doris and family

As Bob's stay among us comes to a close, I'd like to share some thoughts with you.

Bob was an inspiration to many, myself included. His gift to say the right things at the right time in the right way is a skill I search for now as I try to describe what he meant to others.

His calm, thoughtful nature, his ability to find something good in everyone, his reluctance to speak ill of others, while still doing his duty to God, country and family have set a high standard for the rest of us to follow.

I'll provide an example: Bob was in a conversation whose subject was someone anyone else would have considered a mutton-headed dolt. Bob described him as "lacking focus". A true diplomat.

As Bob takes on his next post, this time directly for his Creator, I expect he is trying to make everyone comfortable, having kind words for all and asking, as he did here, what can I do to help out?

Life seems so short when we lose someone close our heart. Family and friends will be by your side to support you and to remember the good times. Heartfelt condolences - Jas 4:14
