Robert M. Read

Robert Moore Read went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Friday, December 10, 2010. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Betty, his wife of 62 years, their beloved daughter, Susan, his brothers, June, Jeff, John and Joe Read. “Bob” was born in Dallas, August 23, 1919 to Margaret and Garland Read. He graduated from Forest Avenue High School in 1936 and attended North Texas Agricultural College until he enlisted in the Army Air Corps, faithfully serving his country during World War II. He worked for Ford Motor Company from 1946 to 1954, before opening Read’s Texaco Service Station until retirement in 1984. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend who served faithfully in his church, delivered Meals on Wheels, served on the boards of the Southeast Emergency Food Bank and Southeast YMCA. He is survived by his sister, Margie Clarke, daughters, Jan Boyd, and husband, Eddie, Robin Read, Karen Stutsman, and husband, Steve, son, Terry Read and wife, Joy, grandchildren, Sharissa and husband, Jeff Murray, Cheryl Boyd, Sarah Gillis and husband, Campbell and Bethany Stutsman, Zachary and William Read and two great grandchildren, Jackson and Ella Murray and many nieces and nephews. His love, wit, and laughter will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Thursday at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, 1324 Pleasant Dr., Dallas, 75217. Memorials may be made to Visiting Nurses Association (Meals on Wheels), Pleasant Grove Christian Church or a charity of your choice.
