

Roberta was born in Monroe, LA, August 23, 1932. She passed to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 17, 2022. As a child she was bright and happy, and later proved to be a brilliant student. She graduated with honors from Ouachita Parish High School in 1950. She and her beloved husband, David, were married early and she devoted her life to helping and supporting his endeavors for 72 years. They have three children, John David DeRossett, Susan Lynn Hicks (Carl), and Robert Allen DeRossett.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Hugh Goza and Dolly Seamon Goza, and her three sisters, Louise Chapman, Florence Johnson and Rhoda Tripp. She leaves her husband, David, her three children and seven grandchildren, Christopher DeRossett (Jennifer), Cory DeRossett (Charlotte), Jordan Hicks (Danielle), Kyle DeRossett, Caitlin Bush (Brandon), Justin Hicks (Monica) and Jana Davila (Abisay).
Also left are 11 great-grandchildren, Leland and Charleigh DeRossett, Lillian, Peter and Millie Hicks, Levi, Maddie,and Campbell DeRossett, and Bennett, Ainsley and Ella Bush. Also left are many much loved nieces and nephews and their families.
While she and David raised their three children through college and successful careers, Roberta exhibited many talents. While David was in the music ministry she ably taught and directed children’s choirs, was a faithful choir member for many years and a wonderful alto soloist in many music productions, including Handel’s “Messiah”, Mendelssohn’s “Hymn of Praise”, Sateren’s “The Redeemer”, Brahms’ “Liebeslieder” and many others. She was also a very successful business lady, having worked as an executive secretary for Esso Standard Oil in Baton Rouge, Rowan Drilling Co. in Fort Worth and retired in 1995 after 26 years with United Companies, Baton Rouge, as Executive Assistant to the company President and CEO. Prior to moving to McKinney, TX, in 2009 to be closer to family, she was a volunteer at Baton Rouge General Hospital for 10 years. In McKinney, she was a volunteer at her church until illness curtailed much of her activities.
David and Roberta enjoyed skiing trips and a number of cruises and European tours, many with family and friends. For eighteen years the family spent a week each summer at a beach house in Pensacola Beach, Florida. She and David were also lifelong animal lovers, having had many pets over the years. She leaves their precious little dog, Teddy, in David’s loving care.
Roberta was a devout Christian from childhood and a member of McKinney First Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements are through Sparkman Funeral Home and Hillcrest Memorial Park, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas, 75225. A visitation will be in the Chapel of First McKinney Baptist Church, 1615 West Louisiana St., McKinney, TX ,75069, at 10:00 AM, Monday, March 28, 2022, followed by a service of homegoing celebration at 11:00 A.M. officiated by the church Senior Pastor, Randy Morlan. Following Roberta’s memorial service, a graveside dedication and benediction will be at Hillcrest Memorial Park.
