Rodney "Rod" Jack Schmidt, born on June 9, 1940 in Valley Mills, TX, passed away peacefully at home on January 9, 2025.
He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1962. He was a problem solver, master at sudoku and crossword puzzles, world traveler and an avid reader.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ellie Hajek; son, Jack Schmidt and wife, Jennifer; son, Bret Schmidt and wife, Virginia; daughter, Heather Nakagawa and husband, Taito; daughter, Kate Schmidt; 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Gladys Schmidt; brother, Larry Schmidt; and sister-in-law Ann.
