Roger J. Scott, Jr. was born in Chicago on August 30, 1937, and died on September 30, 2026, in his home after enjoying a steak dinner with his son, Matthew. Roger was the oldest of 5 boys born to Roger J. and Alice (Sweitzer) Scott. He was a proud Chicagoan and a steadfast Cubs fan who lived long enough to see his cherished team win the World Series in 2016.
Roger met the love of his life, Ann Terese Burns, in 1954 at a high school mixer, and they married on June 21, 1958. They were married for nearly 48 years at the time of Ann’s death in 2006. Roger and Ann had four children: Patricia White (Chuck), Brian (Debbie) who proceeded Roger in death in 2010, Maureen and Matthew (Danielle). Roger was blessed with 7 grandchildren: Taylor Ann (Will), Kevin, Brendan (Emily), Henry, Ian, Reagan, and Ann Marie and three great grandchildren: Stetson, Oakley, and Isla Grace.
Roger graduated from Saint Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, Indiana in 1959. The college honored him in 2014 for his continuous support of his alma mater. Immediately after graduation, Roger began an illustrious and successful 47-year career with IBM. He retired early to support and care for Ann during her cancer battle.
Roger dedicated his life to service and to his Catholic faith. His devotion to charitable works began early. Ann’s father, Harry Burns, introduced Roger into an organization to which he later devoted his life, the Knights of Columbus. Roger joined the Knights of Columbus at Council 6065 at St. Mark the Evangelist in Plano and was the Grand Knight of that council from 1994 to 1996 before he left and joined All Saints. Later, Roger became a District Deputy and then the Dallas Diocesan Deputy. He attained the title of Sir Knight 4th Degree. Roger and his brother Knight, Roy Rabenaldt (also known as Roger Jr.) traveled throughout Texas and the United States to K of C Conventions with their legendary chili. Roger found many life-long friendships within the Knights, especially at Council 799 and Lumen Christi Council 13520.
Roger was an active member of All Saints Catholic Church. He was a Eucharistic Minister and volunteered frequently at K of C events such as Sunday pancake breakfast and barbeque chicken dinners. He also assisted at basketball tournaments and Special Olympic events. Roger was a founding board member of Birth Choice and remained on the board of directors for its successor organization, Catholic Pro-Life Community of Dallas. He was also on the board of directors for Hike for Life. He was dedicated to protecting the unborn and supporting expectant mothers.
Roger traveled to Latin America on missions to provide wheelchairs for those in need and he was proud of his involvement in the Global Living Rosary event that took place at the Cotton Bowl in May 2005. Roger had an infectious laugh and a quick wit. Until it became too difficult to volunteer, he never said “no” when asked to assist. He was generous with the numerous charities he supported.
He was a great listener and gave wise counsel. He will be greatly missed by many who loved and admired him. Our family is heartbroken by the loss of our beloved father and grandfather. To his children, he was a rock: patient, wise, and always there when we needed him. To his grandchildren, he was pure joy, with endless stories, time on the beach and a hug that made everything better. The world feels emptier without his laugh and steady presence. We miss him more than words can say, but we take comfort in knowing his love lives on in each of us and that he is reunited with Mom and Brian.
