Roman Francisco Ortiz, 83, passed away peacefully on 10/ 02 /2017 from esophageal cancer surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Victoria de las Tunas, Cuba in 1934, Roman and his beloved wife, Dulce, witnessed the brutality and injustice of Communism Cuba and made the bold decision in 1968 to uproot the family for the dream of freedom in the US.
The family flourished in Texas and Roman found peace and contentment in the simple pleasures of watching Westerns like Rawhide, recalling fond stories from his beloved homeland, Cuba, debating politics in his backyard, and enjoying a cup of Cuban coffee. But the greatest loves of his life were his family and his strong and unwavering faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Roman was a true Christian in his beliefs, words, and actions. His family meant the world to him – from the pride he took in his children’s and grandchildren’s accomplishments, his emotional and financial support of the relatives left behind in Cuba, and his deep love of his wife and soulmate, Dulce. Roman was always there. His was a life well lived and he will be greatly missed.
Roman was preceded in death by his dear baby sister, Ana, and her husband, Ramon. His surviving siblings are Carlos, Enrique, Francisco (Coca), and Miguel. He leaves behind his children Martha, Gilda and Paco, and grandchildren Kristina, Natasha, Michael, Jeremy, Michael, Briana, and Stephan.
