Ronald Stephen Fiedelman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, colleague, and friend, passed away on February 5, 2018 at the age of 79. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed. Ron was born on July 21, 1938 in Denver, Colorado. He graduated from East High School in Denver in 1956 and then attended the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, where graduated in 1960. Ron loved the rigor and challenges that Wharton offered, and his affinity for detail and problem-solving thrived there. Upon graduation, he returned to Denver and quickly earned his certified public accounting license. He began his accomplished professional career as a CPA in 1961 with Touche Ross & Co. in Denver and transitioned to the Dallas office in 1969. During his near-twenty year tenure with Touche Ross, Ron distinguished himself as a partner and Director of Tax.
In 1980, Ron started his own accounting firm in Dallas, where he continued to provide his clients with unwavering attention and insightful guidance. In 1986, Ron merged his expanded practice with Philip Vogel & Co. (now, Carr, Riggs & Ingram), and served as a partner until his retirement last year. Over the course of his career, Ron shared his professional insight generously with his colleagues by serving on the Board of Directors, as the Tax Committee Chairman, and the Dallas Chapter President of the Texas Society of CPAs, as well as the Texas State Representative and member of the Federal Tax Division of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). Ron was also honored to serve as the President and member of the Board of Governors of the Dallas Estate Planning Council and as a Certified Valuation Analyst with the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts. He enjoyed greatly his tenure as a member/arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association. With understated passion and gentle humility, Ron also supported many community efforts that resonated deeply with him. He served as the Chairman of the Dallas Regional Board of the Anti-Defamation League; the Treasurer, Secretary, and Chairman of the Budget/Finance Committee of the Jewish Community Center; a Trustee for the Jewish Federation of Dallas; Executive Chairman of the Jewish Community Relations Council; and a member of the Board of Directors, as well as Vice Chairman of the Finance Committee, for Legacy Senior Communities.
While Ron established his career and family during almost fifty years in Dallas, he maintained strong roots in Denver and always treasured his upbringing, memories, and ties to Colorado. He traveled there regularly over the years, visiting his parents, attending milestone events for relatives and friends, and taking regular family vacations in the mountains. He grew up loving the outdoors and, over the years, shared his fondness for snow skiing with his family and his interest in cycling with his friends. Ron’s quiet presence and genuine interest in others drew family and friends close to him. A keen listener with an empathetic ear, Ron always made others feel valued and respected. He lived his life with integrity in all respects, and his sound judgment was a source of counsel and comfort to many. Ron was judicious and observant, and his sharp memory absorbed the rich details of his world. Above all, Ron’s greatest source of pride and joy was his family and he was happiest in their presence. He was a loving and steadfast husband, a dedicated father, and a proud grandfather.
Ron is survived by his devoted wife and best friend of 53 years, Marilyn Fiedelman, daughter Cindy, son Jeff and his wife Alyssa, brother Rick and his wife Eileen, and adoring grandchildren, Ryan and Sophie. Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Stuart and Irene Fiedelman.
The family also would like to thank its caregivers for their support over the past year. Ron’s life will be celebrated at a Memorial Service on Thursday, February 8 at 12:30 p.m. at Temple Emanu-El, 8500 Hillcrest Road, Dallas, TX 75225 in Stern Chapel. If desired, donations to honor his memory may be made to the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be made at www.Sparkman-Hillcrest.com
