Ronald Mark Gaswirth, extraordinary husband, father, grandfather, son and brother was born on February 1, 1944 and passed away October 21, 2016. He was predeceased by his father Morton Gaswirth, his brother Mitchell Gaswirth and his mother-in-law Libby Bakst. Ron graduated from The University of Houston in 1965 and The University of Houston Law School in 1968. He later went back to earn his LLM degree in 1978 from SMU Dedman School of Law. Among his innumerable honors and awards, Ron was the foremost expert - and a sought after lawyer - for the most pressing labor and employment matters. He was recognized as one of the top 10 labor and employment attorneys in the world. As a former regional counsel for the U.S. Department of Labor, Ron understood the system and knew how the laws worked best to protect his clients and their organizations. Ron admissions included Texas (1968), Texas State Courts (1968), U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia (1971), U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Northern, Southern and Western Districts of Texas, and U.S. Supreme Court (1974). He was recognized by Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business (Tom Wicker ed., Chambers & Partners) for Labor & Employment from 2009-2016; AV® Preeminent™ 5.0 out of 5 Peer Review Rated, Martindale-Hubbell® PEER REVIEW RATINGS™; Texas Super Lawyers for Employment and Labor from 2003-2006, 2008, 2010-2016; and The BTI Client Service All-Star Team for Law Firms in 2008. A man of impeccable integrity, he was exceptionally accomplished in his career and known for his unwavering commitment to his clients – most of whom were represented by him for decades. Known for his incredible generosity, he left an indelible mark on the hearts of his family and his enormous group of loyal friends. He devoted his life and career to protecting his family and others, to the end. Loved and respected by all, he remains an icon within the legal community and to his beloved family. Ron was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 49 years, Marsha, children Stacey (Paul) Kaplan and Brad (Dana) Gaswirth, his mother Adele Gaswirth, father-in-law Leon Bakst and grandchildren Hannah, Dylan and Garrett Gaswirth, Alex and Josh Schnitzer, and Drew Kaplan. He's also survived by his sister-in-law’s Sharon (John) Baron and Paulette Bakst, his nephew’s Jason and Howard Gaswirth, and his niece Wendy Gaswirth. Funeral services will be held at Shearith Israel Synagogue on Sunday, October 23 at 2:00 p.m., followed by burial service at Sparkman/Hillcrest. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
