Rose Ann Gorman Thompson, 98, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, surrounded by loved ones. Rose Ann was born May 13, 1928, to Stephen Ambrose and Mary Elizabeth Gorman. She grew up in the Washington DC area with her mother, her older brother, her older sister and her younger brother. Her father unfortunately passed away when she was six years old. She met her future husband, Lewis “Jim” Thompson, while working at Georgetown University, where he was a student. They married in 1951 and began a coast to coast journey in pursuit of Jim’s medical education and training. Through these years, they welcomed their seven children. In 1967, they settled in the Dallas area. Rose Ann’s life became full of carpools, kids’ activities, involvement in the St. Patrick and Bishop Lynch communities, bowling, circle meetings and even chairing the St. Patrick’s fair one year. She and Jim had a tight group of friends that had many evenings out, trips to Mexico and the horse races, and regular Super Bowl celebrations. In later years, she took to perusing antique shops for spoons to add to her collection.
After 66 years of marriage, Jim passed away in 2017. She is also predeceased by her son, Ray. Rose Ann is survived by her children, Lewie and Jeanne Thompson, Carol and Joe † Riedel, Diane and Brett Zeigler, Kerry and John Orth, Susie and Martin Knoll, and Kenny Thompson; Grandchildren Katie and Michael Baldwin, Kimmie and TJ Hadsall, Ashley Riedel, Kristin Riedel and Jeremy Miller, Matt and Clarissa Riedel, David Dawson, Colleen and Kevin Meyer, Rebecca and David West, Kevin Orth, Kathleen Orth, and Courtney Thompson; And numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mom, Grandma, Aunt Rose Ann, Grandma Again and Grandma Thompson will be so missed by those she loved.
Services for Rose Ann Thompson will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026 with a rosary and visitation from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Boulevard, Dallas, TX 75228. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated the following day, Friday, August 21, 2026, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 9643 Ferndale Rd. Dallas, TX 75238 at 12:00 noon.
