

Roy Lee Jones Sr. was born October 27th 1948, in Grapeland, Texas, to the parentage of Lee J. Clemons and Christine Jones. He attended high school at Grapeland High, and he moved to Dallas, Texas, in 1967, where he made a living as a truck driver and met the love of his life, Doris Tasby, in 1977. Roy Jones Sr. and Doris Tasby united in marriage on May 23rd 1979. Roy went back to school and obtained his Class A-COL license and continued to drive 18-wheelers for 38 years until he retired in 2017. Roy was a Christian and a member of the New Waverly Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board.
Roy’s passion was his family, which he loved unconditionally and provided a safe haven for them all. Roy’s favorite pastime hobbies were grilling, fishing and (C.B.) Citizen Ban radio; his C.B. handle was AKA (The World Wide 49). He would spend countless hours talking to his fellow C.B. friends.
Roy L. Jones Sr. was preceded in death by his mother, Christine Denby; father, Lee J. Clemons; stepfather, Frank Lewis Denby; and his granddaughter, An’twonyia (Duey) Smith.
Roy L. Jones Sr. is survived by his wife of 40 years, Doris (Resa) Jones; daughter, Cherylin Stimpson (Billy); sons, Roy Jones Jr. (Stephanie), Vincile Jones (Yolanda), and Mitchell Smith (Belinda); brothers, Ezzard Denby, Gwen Denby (Rmay), and Gary Denby; sisters, Francis Johnson, Brenda Bruton (Billy), Sherrel Denby, Crelene Thompson, and Connie Denby; grandchildren, Deion (Amaris), Lakendra, Mitchell Jr. (D’ericka), Keagan, Aroyla, Derrick, Vincile, Quincelle, Tawakalee, Christian, and Payton; thirteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
