We celebrate the life of Ruth Kalmbach Kidd, a devoted lover of nature, loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend, who passed away in Dallas, Texas after a courageous battle with dementia on March 9, 2026. Ruth was born in Detroit, Michigan on May 21, 1942, to Donald and Vivian Kalmbach. She was raised alongside her sister Judy and attended the University of Michigan where she studied business and botany and became a lifelong Michigan Wolverine fan. She married her husband Gary in 1971 in Birmingham, MI and they had a son, Kyle. She was a lifelong entrepreneur, constantly reinventing herself from arts & crafts to landscaping. But her true love was being outside working in the garden. In her later years she shared her passion for nature with others as a volunteer at the Dallas Arboretum.
Ruth is survived by her son, Kyle and his wife Molly with their children Alexander and Emily; her stepdaughter Melanie and her husband Randy and her children Reid and Will; and her sister Judy and her children Michael, Keith and Carol. Ruth was a force of nature and left a lasting impact on all that knew her. She spent the last several years traveling the globe and fittingly her last trip abroad was to the Holy Land.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Dallas Arboretum in Dallas, Texas in her honor.
