Ruth Evelyn Smith

Ruth Evelyn Smith, 90, of Dallas TX, passed away on April 7, 2022. She was born in Valparaiso, IN on June 4, 1931. Ruth graduated from Valparaiso High School and received an associate’s degree from El Centro College. She was married to Lawrence J. Smith on October 8, 1949.

Ruth had a career in Medical Assisting for Dr. Ben Merrick and Dr. Lamar Byrd for 16 years. She was a member of Dallas Quilters Guild, a long-time parishioner of St. Pius X Catholic Church, and had a passion for quilting, sewing, cross stitch, and cake decorating.

Ruth is survived by her husband of 72 years, Lawrence John Smith Sr; children, Laura Smith Wilchester (Jim), Gayle Smith Monier-Leos (Frosty), Lawrence “Larry” Smith (Kendall), Rebecca Smith Sheppard, Daniel Smith; daughter-in-law, Linda Smith; loving friend and neighbor, Kim Sheffler; 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

A rosary will be prayed on April 26, 2022 at 10:30am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, with a memorial mass to follow at 11:00am. In honor of Ruth, the family asks that everyone wear an item of pearl jewelry - which was her birthstone. A reception will be held after mass in the Parish Hall from 12:00pm to 1:00pm. A procession will leave from the church at 1:15pm to take Ruth to her final resting place at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Rowlett.
