He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Russell Mascorro and his wife, Barbara Ann Russell Mascorro. He is survived by his two sons, six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Samuel was born at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio, Texas on May 3, 1931 to Samuel Bazan Mascorro of Refugio, Texas and Librada Alaniz de la Garza of Pleasanton, Texas.
He attended Central Catholic High School in San Antonio where he competed in Golden Gloves boxing as a Featherweight in 1947. He graduated in 1949 from Brackenridge High School in San Antonio where he was a Track of Field stand out athlete.
Although he had been accepted to the University of Texas at Austin on a partial athletic scholarship, he elected to join the U.S. Air Force and entered the service on January 5, 1951 at Kelly Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.
Airman First Class Mascorro flew as a crewman on converted B – 29 Stratofortress tanker aircraft assigned to the 485th Air Refueling Squadron, 2nd Bomb Wing under the command of Major General Curtis B. Lemay at Hunter AFB in Savannah, Georgia.
In 1952 he served as a cryptologist with the 485th Communications Squadron and was posted to duty stations at High Wycombe in the United Kingdom, and Fontainebleau in France. He received an Honorable Discharge on January 8, 1955 at the rank of Sargent. He was awarded the National Defense Metal and was in London for the coronation of Elizabeth II in June of 1953.
In 1958 he graduated with a B.A. from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas as a member of Alpha Delta Sigma Honor Society for Advertising.
He founded Kraloy, Inc. in Dallas, Texas and spent fifty years in the plastics industry both in domestic and international markets. He was a member of the Society of Plastic Engineers, the First Families of Bexar County genealogical society, and the Sons of the Republic of Texas. He was a long time election official and precinct chairman for the Democratic Party of Dallas County and a member of Saint Rita Catholic Church.
Services will be a Rosary at Calvary Hill Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas on Wednesday January 18th at 5:30 PM with a graveside service with military honors at Holy Cross Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas on Friday January the 21st.
