Sam was born on September 6, 1922, in Wilmer, TX, to Sarah and Guy Patterson. Wilmer is also where he grew up before he decided to join the service and serve in the US Coast Guard, where he proudly served his country as a gunner's mate on an LST in the Battle of Iwo Jima.
Sam was not only a brave loyal soldier, but also a patient and loving husband, father and grandfather. He married Marie Ihnfeldt in March 1947 and was married to his lovely bride for 66 years before her passing. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie, parents, two brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Patterson, a sister, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, all of whom will greatly miss their Popa. He loved spending time with his family. Sam was well known for his fiery spirit, but had a giant loving heart that we will all miss.
