Sara Hazan-Cohen, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Sunday, November 29, 2020, in Dallas, Texas. She was born April 20, 1938, in Bayamo, Cuba, to Pedro and Sara (Sueiro) Roig. After her university studies in Cuba, Sara met her husband Isidoro in October 1964, and they married January 1965. They left Cuba in 1965 for Mexico City and then moved to Dallas in May of 1966. She was the quintessential Mom and Abuela (grandma in Spanish) who loved spending time with her family, especially her four children, two grandchildren, and many pets over the years. Ever the night owl, she and her children used to delight in watching late night TV together as well as exchanging funny stories. Sarita, Sary, Mom, Mami, Mamita, Mama-San, MomMomMomMom, Abuela, and Lela are just a few of the loving nicknames her family gave her. She enjoyed traveling, but by far, the most important trips for her were the numerous trips to Cuba to visit her parents, sister and brother-in-law, niece, and nephew. For many years, Sara enjoyed classes in Hebrew, Judaism, computers, yoga, Pilates, and aerobics when she wasn't working at the family business, ABC Textiles.
She is survived by her children, Rachel Wallace, Mark Hazan-Cohen, Rebecca Cohen Pinker and husband Marc, and Carmen Cohen; grandchildren Amanda Hazan-Cohen and Peter Wallace; sister, Rebeca Céspedes and husband Eduardo; and numerous extended family members in Dallas, Cuba, and Spain. She was preceded in death by her husband Isidoro and her parents Pedro and Sara Roig.
