Sarah Reaves White, 89, passed away on March 24, 2025. She grew up in Houston, TX, where she trained as a classical pianist. After receiving her B.A. and M.A. in English Literature from the University of Texas at Austin, she began her 47-year teaching career. She was part of a small team who set up the first elementary Montessori public school in Dallas. The school became so successful that later, it was divided into two magnet schools; the program continues to expand to this day.
In 1978, she co-founded the Friends of WRR to stop the sale by the city of the only classical music station in North Texas, WRR Classical 101.1 FM. She campaigned tirelessly to keep the self-funding station as a city-owned entity so that access to classical music would be free for North Texans. She volunteered her time to many nonprofits and charities over the decades, including the Women's Board of the Dallas Opera, the Dallas Symphony, The Metropolitan Opera regional auditions and the Daughters of the Republic of Texas.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 61 years, Allen White. She will be remembered for her ability to inspire others, her love of new challenges and her devotion to her family. She is survived by two children, a daughter-in-law and four grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14, at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church in The Saint Michael Chapel , 8011 Douglas at Colgate, Dallas, Texas.
