Sharon Muth Ellis, 82, of Dallas, Texas, peacefully passed into the loving arms of Jesus her Lord and Savior on the morning of December 29, 2025, following a short but hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. Sharon was born on March 28, 1943, to Walter Julius and Betty Compton Muth in Houston, Texas. She graduated from Lamar High School as a National Merit Semi-Finalist in 1961, and from The University of Texas at Austin in 1965 as an Actuarial Science major, where she met and married the love of her life, James Daniel Ellis. Sharon’s life was a personal testament to the values she held most dear – faith, perseverance and the importance of family. One of her most famous family quotes was “I’m just happy to be here.” Her passion in life was serving others.
Sharon was a living example and follower of Jesus Christ every day. She was a devoted and beloved leader in Women’s Bible Study at Park Cities Baptist Church for years. Sharon also served joyfully in her church through flower ministry, VBS and nursery. For neighbors and friends, she lovingly took meals. Sharon shared her heart and time to countless causes, including Women of Vision, Herrera Center and Crisis Pregnancy Center. She always put others first and sought God’s will with every step. She loved reading and studying the Bible every day, showing up to support her grandchildren in all their endeavors, going on mission trips with friends and church family, vacationing with her family and friends, mahjong games, Sunday school, writing thank-you notes, Pilates, good food, great conversations, and cheering on her beloved Texas Longhorns during watch parties. Her daily habits and loving ways manifested into displaying Christ’s love and light which she spread everywhere she went. She touched countless lives throughout her time and ministry on earth, and she always chose to find the good in everyone she met. She never had a harsh word to say, but was meditative, thoughtful and always full of wisdom when she did speak. Although just as beautiful on the outside as she was on the inside, Sharon embodied the Proverbs 31 noble, kind and honored wife, mother, grandmother, friend and woman. She lived a life full of wisdom, justice and deep reverence for God, showing that true worth comes from character and faithful action, not outward appearance. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed and fortunate enough to know this remarkable and amazing lady.
Sharon is survived by her loving and faithful husband of 60 years, Dan; son and daughter-in-law Sam and Jamie Ellis of Dallas, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law Teri and Mike Smith of Grass Valley, California, and Cindy and Brian Hanson of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Daniel and Amanda Smith of Terrell, Texas, Cody Smith of Denver, Colorado, Coleman Ellis of Dallas, Texas, Jillian Ellis of Dallas, Texas, Landon Ellis of Dallas, Texas, Owen Hanson of Dallas, Texas, and Wyatt Hanson of Dallas, Texas. Sharon/Mom/Grandma/Nena will forever be in all of their hearts and missed every day. We know that she was proud of each of them.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home at 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas 75225.
There will be a memorial service for Sharon on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 1:30 p.m. at Park Cities Baptist Church located at 3933 Northwest Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75225. The burial ceremony will immediately follow at Sparkman/Hillcrest.
The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to the caring doctors, nurses and staff at UT Southwestern, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, Faith Presbyterian Hospice & T. Boone Pickens Hospice & Palliative Center. You are angels on earth; thank you for heeding your calling to care for others, and Sharon always had a smile to greet each and every one of you.
