Shirley G. Burgin, 75, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend, passed away from this life on Monday, June 4, 2012, in Dallas, TX. Shirley was born on December 7, 1936, in Stillwater, OK, to John Clark Humphrey and Lois Louise Dunn Humphrey. Shirley graduated from Stillwater High School in 1955 and attended Oklahoma State University where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. In 1959, she married Charles E. Burgin and lived in Stillwater, Carlsbad, NM, and Lubbock, TX. In 1964, the couple moved with their two young sons to Dallas, TX, where they raised their two sons and a daughter born in 1968. Shirley acquired many, many friends during her life. She never met a stranger and her love for people forged deep relationships with many people throughout the various stages of her life, including friends of her children and extended family, both near and far. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, and her sister Doris L. Briscoe. Shirley is survived by her beloved husband, Charles E. Burgin, and by her two sons and daughter: Jon B. Burgin and wife Janet; Jay C. Burgin and wife Lori; and Jill Burgin Baker and husband Ken, all of Dallas, TX. A sister also survives her, Helen Simcoe and husband Ralph “Bud” Simcoe of Scottsdale, AZ. Other survivors include nine grandchildren, 10 nieces, five nephews, 10 great nieces and 12 great nephews. Shirley was loved by all of us and will be greatly missed. Visitation will be Thursday, June 7, from 6-8 pm at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, Dallas, TX. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday, June 8, at Wilshire Baptist Church, Dallas, TX. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wilshire Baptist Church Pastoral Residence Program, 4316 Abrams Road, Dallas, TX 75214. Service is under the direction of Dr. George Mason, Senior Pastor.
