April 30, 1942-August 19, 2017
Shirley was born in Fort Worth and grew up In Denton, Texas. Her mother and father, of blessed memory, were Dr. J.K.G.Silvey, Chairman of the Division of Science and head of the Biology Department for the University of North Texas, and Daisy Marie Burns Silvey, stay at home mom. In 2011, she sadly lost her beloved younger sister, Cynthia. She was very proud of her daughters, Tracy Sutton and Deidra Klemm and extended family that includes step sons, Jeff Rubinett, Arthur Rubinett, and Russell Crane. In addition to wonderful sons and daughters-in -law, Kent Sutton, Jason Klemm, Marcia Rubinett, and Ann Crane, the great joys of her life were her 11 grandchildren, Michael, Andrew, and Mollie Rubinett, William and Savannah Sutton, Josh Rubinett, Kennedy and Kathryn Klemm, and Kate, Meredith and Elizabeth Crane.
Shirley felt very fortunate to have had three wonderful marriages. William I. Trevino, who passed in 1980 was the father of her 2 lovely daughters. Norman H. Rubinett, passed away in 2007 and created with Shirley a richly Jewish home. She and her High School Sweetheart, Charles H. Crane rediscovered each other and were married in 2009. They continued to be active Temple members.
Shirley was a math/science person who always knew she would be a teacher. After receiving both Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in Education from the University of North Texas, she began her teaching career in 1966 and taught math and computer technology Math for 36 years.
When Shirley moved to Dallas in 1982, she wanted to become involved in the community, so she joined Temple Emanu-El, teaching middle school Religious School for several years. She was involved in Hadassah, Jewish War Veterans Ladies Auxiliary #256, and the Women of Reform Judaism. As a lifetime Hadassah member and the past president of The D’Vora-Golda Meir evening group, she was proud of all that had been accomplished at the Hadassah Hospital in Israel. She was also proud of the JWVA Ladies Auxiliary that supports the VA Hospital in Dallas and Chaim Bathsheba Hospital in Israel as well as JCC Pre-School scholarships.
Shirley was proud to have served as the WRJ President from 2009-2011. Among her many accomplishments while president, she was most gratified by the establishment of the Yad Ezra Fund that provides emergency assistance to congregants in need. She was actively involved in Sisterhood and supported the efforts of WRJ/Sisterhood by working Judaic Treasures, WRJ’s premier Judaica shop and a major source of funds that support the good works of Sisterhood at Temple and beyond. She felt that the most enjoyable part of being active in WRJ/Sisterhood was working with so many dedicated and energetic women. Shirley was pleased to be inducted into the Temple Emanu-El WRJ/Sisterhood Hall of Fame and was humbled by this honor that she treasured.
Her smile, enthusiasm, and positive attitude will be sorely missed.
And most of all….she loved her family!
