Shirley Ann Odum Day was born April 25, 1935 in Dallas, Texas to Roxie and William Odum, and passed away July 21, 2017 in Naperville, Illinois. Shirley grew up in a godly home in Dallas, Texas. She attended Alamo Grade School and Forest Avenue High School. During her youth, she traveled with Rev. and Mrs. Russell Hunt singing, playing the mandolin, and spreading God’s word. She had a beautiful tenor voice. She fell in love with and married the love of her life, Donald Clyde Day, in 1951. Together they had two daughters, Donna and Andrea. In addition to caring for her husband and children, Shirley enjoyed needlework, candy making, and reading. Music played a big part in her life. She loved to dance and was quite good! Shirley freely offered her home to scores of friends and loved ones. She was the Queen of Hospitality and an excellent cook. Her pecan pie, chicken fried steak, biscuits and gravy, and English pea salad were family favorites. People were drawn to Shirley and often confided in her. When they were troubled, they found a kind spirit and a listening ear. She had a big heart and often bought groceries for people she met in super markets, especially young mothers with children. She had a beautiful laugh and loved life with all its joys and challenges. Shirley and her sweetheart, Donald Clyde, loved to reminisce about all the things they had experienced and people they had known. They thanked God daily and asked him to guide their lives. Shirley is survived by Donald Clyde Day, her husband of 66 years, daughters Donna Day Monti of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and Andrea Day Damato (John) of Naperville, Illinois. Shirley was blessed with 6 wonderful grandchildren: Noel C. Price (Jessica) of Aurora, Aimée N. Price of Chicago, Emilee R. Price of Yorkville, Ashlee E. Price (Sandy) of Hawaii, Brent R. Price of Virginia, and Gianna M. Damato of Naperville. Shirley is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great- grandchild along with many loving nieces and nephews.
