Shirley graduated from Wharton High School and received an Education Degree in English at the University of Houston. She was married to Dr. Bernard Schnitzer of Dallas on October 2, 1952. She was a member of Temple Emanu-El. She had a passion for literature and books, movies, the beach and gardening. She loved flowers.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bernard. She is survived by her children, Gary Schnitzer, Jeff Schnitzer and Julie Schnitzer.
Funeral services will be at 2 pm Sunday, January 2, at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway in Dallas. After the indoor service, interment ceremony will follow at the gravesite. Following that, there is a reception with food and wine at the reception room at the Funeral Home.
Shirley wrote a poem years ago that she wanted read at her funeral. Though it will be read there, here it is for everyone:
Remember Me
Remember me as the sunlight streaks across the sky.
Remember me as the waves crash against the earth.
Remember me in all of nature's beauty and in her every smile.
