2020. Standley was born June 3, 1936 in Fort Worth, Texas to A.W. and Arlene Scott. Preceded
in death by his parents, his wife of 55 years Betsy Scott, brother Jim Scott, and brother Bob
Scott. Survived by his sister Jane Gwinn, his daughter and son-in-law Shannon and Bryan
Mileger of Spicewood, Texas, his son and daughter-in-law, Seth and Lisa Scott of Lorena,
Texas, and his grandchildren, Alden Mileger, Skye Mileger, Cade Mileger, Keaton and Lexi
Scott, Brock Scott and Hutton Scott.
Scottie graduated from Handley High School in 1954. In 1959, he graduated with a Bachelor of
Science Degree in Psychology and in 1962 he graduated with a Master’s Degree in Education
from Abilene Christian College (“A.C.C.”). While at A.C.C., Scottie was a member of Frater
Sodalis, played football for the Wildcats as #74, and served as team captain his senior year. He
developed many cherished friendships at A.C.C., and met and married the love of his life, Betsy
McLeod, in 1958. Betsy and Scottie had a wonderful love story of faith and unconditional love
for each other.
Scottie undertook many different responsibilities and professions in his life, from coaching and
sales, to playing Santa Claus; but the most important one to him was serving as an Elder at
Altamesa Church of Christ. He was a shepherd for many years, sharing his loving and
encouraging spirit by teaching Agape Classes and counseling members of the flock.
Scottie had a contagious spirit that he shared through his laughter. You were blessed just
knowing him and being in his presence. He lived his life Serving God, as well as those he came
in contact with. We will miss him here on earth, but have peace knowing we will see him again.
