Stanley Donald Golden was born on May 9, 1928, in Binghamton, New York, the youngest of three children born to Louis and Sadye Golden. He is survived by his adored wife, Nelda; his daughter, Judge Barbara Lynn; his son-in-law, Michael; his granddaughters, Dr. Tara Neubrand, and Whitney Lynn; his grand-son-in-law, Tracey Neubrand; his great-granddaughters, Reily and Blake Neubrand; his brother, Julius ("Julie"); his nephews, Todd and Spencer; and his beautiful dachshund, Liesel.
Beginning when he was a kid, Stan was a wonderful salesman. At Julie's request, Stan took over his brother's Liberty Magazine route when he was 13, and, according to Julie, on his first day, he sold ten times as many magazines as Julie had. Stan sold home furnishings on a route in New York, and then did the same in Florida, to where he, Nelda and Barbara moved in 1957. Stan was president of Congregation Adath Yeshurun in North Miami Beach. In 1979, Stan and Nelda moved to Dallas to be with Barbara and Michael, and Tara was born the next year. In Dallas, Stan was first a salesman and then an account manager, and after retirement, he became a fundraiser, particularly for his beloved Southwest Jewish Congress. Stan was also a volunteer for the guardianship program of the Dallas county courts.
Stan's personality was absolutely engaging. Even when he was calling to raise money, and left a message, everyone always called back so they could have the joy of talking to Stan. A contribution was a small price to pay for that privilege!
Although his short-term memory was stolen from him by Alzheimer's, Stan continued to revel in the love and accomplishments of his daughter, son-in-law, granddaughters and great granddaughters. But his memory never faltered when it came to Nelda, the joy and love of his life. Everyone knew of Nelda at Windsor and Belmont, because every day Stan called out for her and he lit up like a beacon whenever Nelda walked into the room.
Stan will be well-remembered for his bigger than life personality, his brilliant smile, his belly laugh, his ear-wiggling, his interest in all things and everyone around him, his love and devotion to his family, his worship of his wife, his co-founding of the Couples Club at Temple Emanuel-El with Nelda, his tireless work for the Southwest Jewish Congress, his allegiance to his country and his commitment to his faith. Stan lived life well, and the world is a smaller place without him.
Services will take place on Tuesday, October 25 at 11:30 a.m. in the Stern Chapel at Temple Emanu-El, 8500 Hillcrest Avenue, followed by interment at the Temple Emanu-El cemetery. Friends and family are invited to share joyous memories of Stan at lunch at Temple Emanu-El in the Tycher Gathering Space, after the interment, between 1:45 and 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, Stan’s many friends and admirers may make a memorial contribution to the Southwest Jewish Congress, which would have pleased him immensely, by https://www.swjc.org/support-us.html, or by check to 11311 N Central Expressway, Suite 300, Dallas, Texas 75243.
