Steve was raised on the family farm near Bethany Missouri, the youngest child of Kenneth and Helen Youngman. He graduated with a B.S. in accounting from Northwest Missouri State University in 1982. In 1985, he earned his J.D. from SMU School of Law. Steve began his law career at Moore and Peterson, joining Weil Gotshal and Manges in 1989. Steve's practice was concentrated in the area of business reorganizations and debtors' and creditors' rights, with a focus on the restructuring of companies in various industries, including retailers, distributors and finance companies. He led or had significant involvement in a number of the firm's debtor representations, including American Airlines, CHC Helicopter, Endeavour International Corporation, Paragon Offshore, Pilgrim's Pride Corp., General Growth Properties, Vertis Inc., Silicon Graphics, Inc., and Greyhound Lines, Inc. He was involved in the firm's representation of American Airlines' acquisition of substantially all of the assets of Trans World Airlines. He also represented GE in various debtor-in-possession/exit loan transactions, including Mirant Corporation. Steve's passion was his work, but also enjoyed his Shelties, often calling home asking how the "girls" were. They were truly Daddy's girls. Steve is survived by his wife of nearly 33 years, Denise. Siblings: Margret (Dan) LeBlond, Ray (Sylvia) and Lydia. Brothers-in-law Richard Bannister and David (Lori) Bickler and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, In-laws Richard and MaryAnn Bickler, sister Marilyn Bannister and nephew Kris Youngman. Special thanks to friends William and Jennifer LePage and Luis and Cheryl Saldana. Also, Patty Kay, Steve's administrative assistant of 22 years and Dr. David McCollum and the entire staff of Sammons Chemotherapy Infusion Department. Donations may be made to the SPCA Jan Rees Animal Care Center 2400 Lone Star Drive Dallas TX 75212. A memorial service will be held at the Northwest Highway Chapel at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home on Saturday, May 19th, at 12pm, with a reception to follow.

Denise, I am so sorry to read about Steve's death in the Texas Bar Journal. Steve was my Moot Court partner in our first year at SMU. I have many fond memories of working with him. He was a thoughtful gentleman and I admired how calm he was under pressure. You have my sincere condolences. I am glad I knew him.

Although our exchanges were short, when I was able to see you both, I still recall talking about my classes in high school with y'all, in particular my English class. If Steve hadn't asked me if I had figured out what the "451" for Fahrenheit 451 actually stood for, I'm certain I would have not have passed that exam. I still think back to it, at random times, and think, "Thank God for Mr. Steve! I still have no idea how I passed that test...." Or when I had inquired how he liked his new Sonos sound bar--I think that was the most excited I have seen him, other than when he laughed, like a child with a new toy. He was so pleased with that new investment. I'll never forget it. Denise, both you and Steve, and the girls (Randy, Sally, Abbey and Lacey), played a HUGE role in where I am at today and I couldn't thank y'all enough. There's comfort in knowing that he's with the girls looking upon your entire family from this day forward and I hope that when you feel a heightening/strengthening in your intuition, that you take it as a sign of Steve's presence, as I have felt, since our Ramona has been gone. Lots of love and bears hugs to you and your family. And may peace come swiftly in this time of grief. All my love, -M
