A devoted family man, Steve loved music, photography, the outdoors, and especially traveling and exploring the United States. Most of all his family and granddaughter. He leaves behind countless memories of his wit, kindness, comforting presence, beautiful blue eyes, and unique spirit.
Steve enjoyed a long career as a bench jeweler after trade school. He began working in the Chicago area after high school and helped his father in his landscaping business. After following his brother Tom to Texas, he settled in the Dallas area, where he met Diane on New Year’s Eve. He pulled her onto the dance floor before she had even seen his beautiful blue eyes and lush hair, and they danced together for the rest of his life.
Steve became a respected member of the business community, taught jewelry workshops, owned a store Hemesath Manufacturing in Cedar Hill with Diane for close to 10 years. Steve continued his work and retired from Signet Jewelers in 2019.
Born October 3, 1954 in Illinois to the late Ray Hemesath and Mae Clarissa Larson Hemesath, Steve is survived by his wife of 41 years, Diane Putchat Hemesath; daughters Megan Danielle Hemesath (Nathan Hodges) and Lauren Stephanie Hemesath (Kyle Wynns) and beloved granddaughter, Madison Marie Wynns.
Steve is survived by his older brother, Tom Hemesath; sister-in-law Jean Hemesath; nephew Josh Hemesath, his children, Leif and Austin; nephew Tim Hemesath (Amanda Hemesath) and their son Evan of the Austin area. Steve is further survived by his brother-in-law Richard Harvey, husband of his beloved late sister Barbara, nieces Shannon Harvey and Katie Harvey of Indiana and Illinois.
Steve’s father Ray once said he wouldn’t make it past 21, and we want to thank him again for being himself and thankful he gave us 50 more.
