OBITUARY
Steven Charles Welch
September 29, 1963 – January 26, 2016
Steven Charles Welch died on January 26, 2016, in Aquilla, Texas. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Lorie, and his precious children, Ransom and Copeland.
Steve was a groundbreaker, leader and innovator in the commercial flooring industry. He founded and led Woodwright Hardwood Floor Company, headquartered in Dallas. With an acclaimed portfolio reaching beyond Texas to a national and international clientele, Steve had the honor of being involved in such prestigious projects as the George W. Bush Presidential Library, Kimbell Art Museum, Tobin Center for Performing Arts, and Winspear Opera House. Steve was respected and admired by his employees, and had a profound effect on their lives.
Steve believed his most important role was as a husband and a father. He married his soulmate, Lorie Burnette Welch, who brought endless joy and light to his life. Lorie and Steve built a beautiful, faith-filled family together. There was no father more proud of a son and a daughter than Steve. His greatest joy in life was his time on the ranch with his wife and kids. His sweetness, positive attitude, sense of humor and determination live on in his wonderful children.
Steve fought a courageous battle with cancer.

This morning I sang Happy Birthday to Steven. I miss you and your calls as you drove from Dallas to Aquilla. Steven, you left so much beauty for tens of thousands on this earth. Your talent, heart and spirit live on forever. I will be there in heaven with you and Tim soon. I can hardly wait, there is so little left for me here on earth. Love, Mom

Steven, this last weekend we celebrated the birthdays of your brothers, Tim and Paul. Both born on 9/3. Tim is there with you in eternity, Paul soldiers on without his brothers. We think about you both daily. Dear God, is there any greater loss than a son much less two sons. My heart weeps with every dawn that breaks. Love, Mom

When Steven was seven years old we lived across the street from a Presbyterian church which we never attended. One day a knock came at our door. It was the Pastor of the church. He told me that he found Steven in his church, praying, several times. Steven embraced the grace of God early in life all on his own. Love, Mom

For those who might not realize, he was a loving and adventurous brother to myself and my fellow six siblings. He was someone who brought endless laughter, joy, happiness, creativity, kindness, strength and incredible love to our lives--- daily, there is not a moment goes by, in which, Gabi (our sister), Michael (our brother) and myself don't think of him, he's always in our hearts and mind. He was and will always be one of my heroes. He was a man of many things, but importantly, he was, and still is, one of the best older brothers and siblings I am incredibly grateful to have. Love you and miss you so much, my dear, sweet brother.
Love you endlessly,
Steffi (your lil sis)

Steven, I miss you so much everyday. I remember when you were so young and had respiratory problems and ended up in the hospital so often. You were in an oxygen tent and could not sleep until I joined you in the tent and sang lullabies to you. Now, I sing to you each night. Sleep well my sweet baby boy. Love, Mom

I have known Steve for about 37 years that I've been in the floor covering business. (Carpet Services, Inc) His Uncle Tom started Woodwright and then Steve took it over. Steve was such a very upstanding gentleman and all who knew him enjoyed working with him. He was so very knowledgeable when it came to wood floors. He will truly be missed in our industry. I'm so very sorry for your loss and I am praying for his family, colleagues and friends. May God's Peace and Comfort be with you during this very difficult time.

I've known Steve around 25 years. We collaborated on several "once in a lifetime" projects over the years. One of the finest men I've ever known, also one of the smartest. I always referred to him as my "wood guru". I will miss him dearly. My prayers are with you and your family Steve. I know you're in God's arms now and out of pain.

Steve was well respected for his expertise in wood flooring, but more importantly he was respected for his integrity. When you combine his competence with his character you had someone who was trustworthy.

Steve will be greatly missed by many. He was a true visionary and leader as a businessman, but more importantly he expressed his deepest love by choosing to spend time with his family. We are grateful for his example and treasure his friendship which was enjoyed for so many years.

This morning I was really shocked to hear of Steve's passing. I've known him for almost the entire time I've worked for Trinity Hardwood and he was a great guy. He would always tell me a funny joke before getting to the point of his call. I really liked and respected him and was very proud for him that he could enjoy the rewards of growing his business. He was a great guy and I'll miss him. My condolences to his family.
