Sue G. Horowitz, a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, adventurer, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on February 4, 1941, in Dallas, Texas, Sue was the daughter of Bertie and Irving Goldstrich, and the sister of Herbie Goldstrich — all of blessed memory.
Sue grew up in Dallas and graduated from Hillcrest High School. In the summer of 1957, she met Jay Horowitz (of blessed memory), at the University Park public pool. They became high school sweethearts, married in 1959 and shared a beautiful life filled with family, laughter, and a love of adventure.
Sue was the devoted and proud mother of five children: Gary (Cynthia), Mike (Dena), Steve, Wendy, and Scott. Her sense of adventure and discovery was instilled in her 9 adoring grandchildren: Cole, Conor, Sam, Sydney, Max, Alden (of blessed memory), Reese, Trace, and Brie. Her love for her family was unconditional and unwavering.
Sue lived life with bold curiosity and a heart full of wonder. A lifelong animal lover, she was always surrounded by cherished dogs and cats. Her second home in Vail, Colorado was a haven where she brought together friends and family for unforgettable ski trips and summer escapes. In the late 90’s, Sue moved to Laguna Beach, CA to start a new chapter of her life near the ocean.
An explorer at heart, Sue traveled the world “National Geographic-style,” visiting obscure and awe-inspiring corners of six continents. From motorhome adventures through the mountainous regions of the U.S., to collecting African and Indian artifacts abroad, she embraced every culture with open arms and an insatiable thirst for knowledge and connection.
Her passion for music—especially Kris Kristofferson—was infectious, and she was never shy about sharing her favorite songs and lyrics with loved ones.
Sue's life was a rich tapestry of love, discovery, and generosity. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
