We are celebrating the life of Susan Valissa Gamblin Everroad who died after a 4 year long battle with cancer at her daughter’s home on August 11, 2018 in Midlothian, TX at the age of 65. We call her many names: Mom, Susan, Nana, Great Nana, and Aunt Sue.
Susan is survived by her mother, Peggy Sue Gamblin of DeSoto, and her two children, Amy Michelle Kapeel and Kendol Chase Everroad of Midlothian, TX, grandsons Andrew Bass, Austin Bass and Anakin Everroad and great-grandson, Kyler Bass. She is preceded in death by her father, James Kenneth Gamblin of DeSoto, TX, her husband, Randol Ray Everroad of Midlothian, TX, and her sister Judy Kay Johnson of Red Oak, TX.
Susan was born on January 21, 1953 in Dallas, TX to James Kenneth and Peggy Sue Gamlin. She graduated from D.W. Carter High School in 1970 and married Randol Ray Everroad on August 6, 1971. A short time later, the couple welcomed two children, Amy and Kendol, into their home. Her children remember her as a warm, caring, loving mother who always encouraged her children to be the best person he and she could be and for them to pursue their goals.
It is hard to adequately describe Mom since her life was so much more defined by her action and the incredible example she set for all of us. She had a character of the highest caliber and impacted many lives over the years with her independence, courage, generosity, sensitivity, and tenacious sense of humor. She made the most of life and played the cards as they were dealt. She celebrated our victories, comforted us in defeat and patiently, but firmly, guided us in the right direction. Her love and caring for her family remained her focus, and in so many ways, she was able to show that love to us. She taught us to love and care for our family and to let them know in all the ways you can show them. This will continue to be her legacy now.
Susan was an accomplished copywriter and proof editor and was a dedicated AAFES employee. She loved her county and deployed with AAFES to Kuwait in 2003 to 2004. She was a generous and witty individual who loved reading books.
A funeral is scheduled for Thursday, August 16, 2018 at Laurel Land Funeral Home located at 6000 South R.L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, TX 75232 with a reception to follow at Amy Kapeel’s Home located at 934 Masquerade Drive, Midlothian, TX 76065. Chaplain David Bibel will officiate the ceremony.
