Born and raised in Dallas, Susan was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. She spent many years working at Neiman Marcus, where she developed her creative skills in the Epicure department and exemplified her strong work ethic in Finance Accounts Payable.
Susan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, C.B. Chavez; her sons John Chavez, Richard Chavez and Christopher Chavez; her grandsons John Richard (J.R.) Chavez, Christopher Michael Chavez and Richard Joseph (R.J.) Chavez; mother, Susana Garcia; brothers, David Ruiz, Roy Ruiz, Marcelino Ruiz and Anthony Guerra; sisters, Inez Hernandez, Hortensia Retta and Rosemary Perez.
She is survived by her loving daughters Ernestine Sanchez, Nickie Chavez, and Mary Chavez; her sister Mary Hernandez; her brother Joe Valdez; several grandchildren; and her adored great-grandson John Michael Chavez. She also leaves behind many cherished family members and friends who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
Susan had a heart full of love and a feisty spirit. She found happiness in the kitchen, cooking meals for her family—especially during holidays and special gatherings. She also enjoyed the thrill of bingo and gambling, and she had a sharp eye for finding treasures during her favorite thrift shopping trips.
Her legacy of strength, laughter, and unconditional love will continue to shine through those who were lucky enough to know her.
The Visitation will be on Thursday July 24, 2025 from 9:00 am - 11:00 am at Calvary Hill Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 am and interment to immediately follow.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
